BJJ POSITIONAL HIERARCHY

These are the main positions in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from best to worst, with top and bottom Guard and Turtle both being fairly neutral.

- Rear mount – top (face down)

- Rear mount – top (face up)

- Mount - top

- Knee on belly - top

- Side control - top

- North/south - top

- Half mount – top

- Guard top / Guard bottom (neutral)

- Turtle top / Turtle bottom (neutral)

- Half guard - bottom

- North south – bottom

- Side control - bottom

- Knee on Belly – bottom

- Mount – bottom

- Rear mount – bottom (face up)

- Rear mount – bottom (face down)

If you’re in a dominant position, consider: - how to keep that position (not go backwards), - how to advance your position, - what submissions are available to you in that position, - what subs are available in the transition to another position

If you’re in an inferior position, consider: - how to keep that position (not get in a worse one), - how to advance your position, - what submissions are available to you in that position, - what subs are available in the transition to another position

I am a Jiu-Jitsu student and I have already been training for 2 years. I have already participated in numerous amateur Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. To be exact, I have already participated in ten tournaments. Out of those ten, I have won four times. Whenever I ran out of stamina I lose focus and that is why everytime I am already in a dominant position I can't think properly for my next move. I end up losing because of that and that is why I always do cardio workouts every day.
